English 8

Everyday Editing: We compared a sentence from today to yesterday, studying serial comma and sensory details. Today's Sentence: Hector's room smelled of gym socks, Hot Cheetos, and lies. Then we created a sentence following the format _______ smells of ______, ________, and ________.

Quick Write: I shared a poem I wrote "Where I'm From." Students learned the three rules of quick writing, and wrote for about eight minutes in their writer's notebooks.

Readers Notebooks: We are working hard to get these organized, and we are almost there! Hopefully, tomorrow we'll be done making this!

Homework Outlook: Letter of Introduction is due Friday (tomorrow)!  Decorating the cover and first pages of writer's notebook is due on Tuesday!

“I try to teach my students that books are a mirror, reflecting their own lives, and a window, giving them a peek into someone else's.” ― Donalyn Miller

“Deeper comprehension is more likely to occur when we
discuss our reading with others.” Kelly Gallagher

“A critical reader in the classroom makes for a discerning
reader outside of the classroom.” Kelly Gallagher
