English 8

April 7-April 11

Welcome back from Spring Break! It's hard to believe we are now in the fourth marking period!

Early this week, we will be finishing up our comparison essay on the mystery story "The Adventures of the Speckled Band." If students don't finish this four paragraph essay in class, they will need to find time on their own to get it finished for Wednesday. Later this week, we will be going back to our literature book and reading selections and completing questions on the selections.

Upcoming Dates:

April 16- The 8th graders will be visiting the Kettenun Center for an all day field trip for the end of the third marking period.

April 18- No School- Good Friday

April 23- 7th and 8th Grade Explore Testing

June 5- Michigan's Adventure Field Trip (Remember students you can not receive any referrals from April 7 through June 5 to be qualified to attend this trip, and students you must be passing all of your classes by June 5 to attend the trip!)

Thoughts on Writing...

watching the pros, don't we?" ~John R. Trimble

write like readers.” Kelly Gallagher

Thoughts on Reading...

“Reading changes your life. Reading unlocks worlds unknown or forgotten, taking travelers around the world and through time. Reading helps you escape the confines of school and pursue your own education. Through characters – the saints and the sinners, real or imagined – reading shows you how to be a better human being.” ― Donalyn Miller, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child

“I try to teach my students that books are a mirror, reflecting their own lives, and a window, giving them a peek into someone else's.” ― Donalyn Miller

“Deeper comprehension is more likely to occur when we
discuss our reading with others.” Kelly Gallagher

“A critical reader in the classroom makes for a discerning
reader outside of the classroom.” Kelly Gallagher
