Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry Reading Assignment: Read from 218-230.
Argumentative Writing
We have started a new writing unit, Argumentative Writing. Today students started filling in their outlines and looking at research to help find support for their paper. Tomorrow students will be expected to finish reading the news articles (research), finish filling out the outline, and begin writing a rough draft. Students will be expected to have the first three paragraphs of the rough draft written by Friday.

Thoughts on Writing...
"As writers, we learn most of what we know just by
watching the pros, don't we?" ~John R. Trimble
“We need to teach our students to read like writers and
write like readers.” Kelly Gallagher

Thoughts on Reading...
“Reading changes your life. Reading unlocks worlds unknown or forgotten, taking travelers around the world and through time. Reading helps you escape the confines of school and pursue your own education. Through characters – the saints and the sinners, real or imagined – reading shows you how to be a better human being.” ― Donalyn Miller, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child
“I try to teach my students that books are a mirror, reflecting their own lives, and a window, giving them a peek into someone else's.” ― Donalyn Miller
“Deeper comprehension is more likely to occur when we
discuss our reading with others.” Kelly Gallagher
“A critical reader in the classroom makes for a discerning
reader outside of the classroom.” Kelly Gallagher
