English 8

Everyday Editing: Copy the following notes into your everyday editing section of your writer's notebook.
                      Complex Sentences
 1. Opener, sentence.
     After school today, I have practice.
     Well, make sure you work hard.

2. Sent, interrupter, ence.
    Her hair, brown and flowing, was held back with a scrunchy.

3. Sentence, closer.
    The dog approached me, wagging its tail.

SSR (During this time, I handed back quizzes and talked with students individually about homework, and about what their claim will be for their literary essay.)

Quick Write: Answer item five on page 15 in your reader's notebook. (Describe something a character said in your novel that produced action in the plot.)

Lesson: 1. Review quizzes from Friday.
              2. Hand out and talk about rubric for literary essay.
              3. Read through and label example literary essay that Mrs. Fredin wrote to help show the
                 elements needed in a literary essay.
