Writing: This week we will
finish working on our Literary Analysis Essay. This essay is due on Tuesday, December 2nd. The rubric for the essay is on schoology.
Students need to submit their essays on schoology. We will also complete a
quick write in our writer’s notebook on our block-scheduled day.
Informational Reading Unit:
This week we begin our Informational Reading Unit. Students will be reading
many informational passages and completing questions on schoology in class. If students
are absent, they can check under their course for the article and questions and
complete work at home. Also, on
schoology I’ve posted in pages the unit outcomes and notes on informational
text structures and forms of informational texts.
Here
are the “I Can Statements” we will be
focusing on in this unit:
1.
I can determine central ideas or themes of a
text and analyze their development and summarize key supporting details and
ideas.
2.
I can analyze how and why individuals, events,
and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.
3.
I can analyze how two or more texts address similar
themes or topics in order to build knowledge or to compare the approaches the
author takes.
4.
I can
read and comprehend complex literary information texts independently and
proficiently.
Grammar: There will be an Everyday Editing quiz on Friday, December 5. We will review for the quiz this week. Also, each
day at the beginning of class, students will be answering questions in their
everyday editing part of the writer’s notebook as bell work. The questions are
formatted like questions from standardized tests on grammar and mechanics.
Novel Reading: Students should be reading at least three times each week for
15-20 minutes outside of English class. Reading Logs will be collected on Friday, December 5. Students need to be
working towards completing the reading of at least 12 novels this year!
