English 8

Today in class we continued working on studying good narrative essays, and taking notes of what authors do to make a piece of writing interesting. After noting different qualities and techniques today, students then made notes on their rough drafts of what they could add to their narrative writing. The last two days in class have been focused on the revision process of the writing process.

Just a reminder, that students should be reading three nights at home each week. The October reading log has been handed out, and students will again need to turn in their log at the end of the month.

Have a wonderful weekend! :)

Thoughts on Reading...

“Reading changes your life. Reading unlocks worlds unknown or forgotten, taking travelers around the world and through time. Reading helps you escape the confines of school and pursue your own education. Through characters – the saints and the sinners, real or imagined – reading shows you how to be a better human being.” ― Donalyn Miller, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child

“I try to teach my students that books are a mirror, reflecting their own lives, and a window, giving them a peek into someone else's.” ― Donalyn Miller

“Deeper comprehension is more likely to occur when we
discuss our reading with others.” Kelly Gallagher

“A critical reader in the classroom makes for a discerning
reader outside of the classroom.” Kelly Gallagher
