English 8

Everyday Editing: We are preparing for the Explore Test in March.

Word Study: Today we handed in the antonym packet and took a quiz over antonym analogies. I also handed out homework, a packet dealing with homophones.

Short Answer Revision: For our writing time today, I handed back student's writing from yesterday, and students revised their work, and then turned the work back in to me.

Anne Frank Study: We are now reading in Act II, Scene I of The Diary of Anne Frank.

Thoughts on Reading...

“Reading changes your life. Reading unlocks worlds unknown or forgotten, taking travelers around the world and through time. Through characters – the saints and the sinners, real or imagined – reading shows you how to be a better human being.” ― Donalyn Miller, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child

“I try to teach my students that books are a mirror, reflecting their own lives, and a window, giving them a peek into someone else's.” ― Donalyn Miller

“Deeper comprehension is more likely to occur when we
discuss our reading with others.” Kelly Gallagher

“A critical reader in the classroom makes for a discerning
reader outside of the classroom.” Kelly Gallagher
