English 8

Quick Write: Reflect on one part of your Christmas vacation or on the entire vacation.

       1. Tell your experience in narrative format.

       2. Use details (like what you were feeling or thinking, as well as how something looked or
           smelled etc.)

SSR/Status of the Class (We went around the classroom and shared the book we are currently reading the place where we are at in the book.)

Mechanics Packet: Some hours started working on the mechanics packet that will help us fine tune some skills taught previously this year on commas and apostrophes. This packet also includes information on when to use an ellipsis, dash, and hyphen with exercises to practice using these mechanics. We will also be learning how to document titles.

Thoughts on Reading...

“Reading changes your life. Reading unlocks worlds unknown or forgotten, taking travelers around the world and through time. Through characters – the saints and the sinners, real or imagined – reading shows you how to be a better human being.” ― Donalyn Miller, The Book Whisperer: Awakening the Inner Reader in Every Child

“I try to teach my students that books are a mirror, reflecting their own lives, and a window, giving them a peek into someone else's.” ― Donalyn Miller

“Deeper comprehension is more likely to occur when we
discuss our reading with others.” Kelly Gallagher

“A critical reader in the classroom makes for a discerning
reader outside of the classroom.” Kelly Gallagher
