English 8

Everyday Editing: Toady we started reviewing our notes and preparing for a quiz on Friday over the material we've been covering so far this year with sentence structure, comma rules, apostrophes, and dialogue.

SSR (Keep working toward your reading goal.)

Next, I handed back literary essays and other assignments. Students put essay in writing binder, and then recorded the essay on a log.

Lesson:  I handed out a rubric for the informational comparison essay that we'll be writing this week in class. In addition, I gave students an example essay, and we started labeling the essay parts. Tomorrow we will write a thesis and continue researching for our topic in the computer lab.

Homework This Week:

1. Study for quiz on Friday from notes in writer's notebook.
2. Continue researching for informational essay.
3. Read every night at home for 10-15 minutes.

“I try to teach my students that books are a mirror, reflecting their own lives, and a window, giving them a peek into someone else's.” ― Donalyn Miller

“Deeper comprehension is more likely to occur when we
discuss our reading with others.” Kelly Gallagher
